The Development Timeline:
September 21st: Project kick-off using Create React App. Initial setup included Firebase, Stripe, Google auth, and the Stripe extension for Firebase. Decided on NodeJS and Typescript for the backend. For the frontend, we went with vanilla React for its reliability and our lead dev's expertise.
September 25th: Successful first tests of the full software stack. This includes client prompt creation, backend API communication, and image generation with the Alfred instance.
September 27th: Revamped A1111's queue system and finalized a fully functional image generation process. The backend now efficiently handles user requests and server management.
October 1st: Transitioned all configurations to environment variables and began refining WebSocket/Express connections.
October 16th: Developed a dashboard ("bat computer") for task visualization and queue management.
October 16th - 30th: Focused on mastering Heroku, Netlify, and enhancing our React front-end. Integrated Jotai for state management, tracking nearly 60 states.
October 30th: Completed front-end styling and layout.
November 1st - The Great Debuggening: Dedicated to bug fixing and front-end simplification.
November 2nd: Launched an invite-only beta, marking the real-world application of our text2img function. Began development on the img2img function.
November 3rd - 5th: Developed and refined the canvas-based inpainting feature, overcoming initial challenges.
November 8th - 9th: Addressed stable diffusion size constraints and introduced the upscaler feature.
November 11th - 13th: Implemented robust error handling for diverse user inputs and server stability.
November 17th: Decided against adding social media share buttons in favor of user privacy.
November 18th - 30th: Overcame Apple-specific development challenges and polished the client interface for a seamless user experience.
December 1st: Began discussions on auto-scaling and server management enhancements.
December 11th - 15th: Successfully implemented and tested an autoscaling system, resolving unexpected bugs.
December 19th: Upgraded to a faster Stable Diffusion model, significantly reducing image generation time. At the same time we increased the quality of the output images significantly.
December 20th: Achieved a tenfold increase in speed and a large reduction in operational costs. Launched version 1.1.0.
Looking Ahead: We're excited to explore new frontiers in AI art, including animation, video, and 3D capabilities. Stay tuned for continuous updates and innovations from Art Forge Labs.
